Having competed at all National Junior Championships and Group 1 County Week, Jonathan Pocock became a Professional Tennis Coach in 1976. He qualified as a Registered Professional (level 3) in 1978 working at the West Warwickshire Club and Coventry Racket Centre.
In 1986, Jonathan moved to the West Worthing Club as Head Coach. He started a programme of Performance Coaching for juniors, achieving notable success in 2002 when the Club’s Under 17 Boys team won the National Junior Club League.
Numerous pupils have competed in age group National Championships with Tom Pocock, Max Jones and Lucy Warburton progressing to Mens and Ladies world rankings. Jonathan's son, Tom, played internationally as a junior from the age of 10 and competed in Grand Slam Junior Events worldwide. He achieved an ITF world ranking of 40 in singles and 4 in doubles.
Jonathan is particularly enjoying his work with the Worthing College Sports Academy. “I like working with youngsters of this age, the challenges and feedback make each session very enjoyable. At an age when many give up, it is gratifying to give the students a direction in sport either as players, coaches or referees”.
