The next set of six one hour coaching sessions for children 8 years and over will commence on Saturday 22 May 2010 and Wednesday 26 May 2010. They will be held on the indoor tennis courts. The Wednesday session will be a mixed age group for players who are unable to attend the Saturday coaching.

A course of five mini-tennis sessions for 4 – 8 year olds to develop co-ordination and racket skills on a mini-tennis red court. The next set of sessions will begin the week commencing 7 June 2010 and will be held on an indoor tennis court.

A morning of games and exercises for children of all abilities to develop ball skills and co-ordination with the opportunity to play on a Mini Red Tennis court.

John Beaumont runs Thursday morning coaching sessions that are aimed to improve your doubles play.
Each lesson costs £5.00 for a member or £7.50 for non-member and includes a orange juice, tea, coffee or hot chocolate in the bar lounge following the lesson. |
Laura Wright runs a weekly adult group coaching session on Monday evenings. Each session includes drills to improve shot accuracy and consistency. The sessions also work on fitness and include competitive play.
The session starts at 7.00pm and lasts for 90 minutes costing £6 per person. |

Having competed at all National Junior Championships and Group 1 County Week, Jonathan Pocock became a Professional Tennis Coach in 1976. He qualified as a Registered Professional (level 3) in 1978 working at the West Warwickshire Club and Coventry Racket Centre.
In 1986, Jonathan moved to the West Worthing Club as Head Coach. He started a programme of Performance Coaching for juniors, achieving notable success in 2002 when the Club’s Under 17 Boys team won the National Junior Club League.
Numerous pupils have competed in age group National Championships with Tom Pocock, Max Jones and Lucy Warburton progressing to Mens and Ladies world rankings. Jonathan's son, Tom, played internationally as a junior from the age of 10 and competed in Grand Slam Junior Events worldwide. He achieved an ITF world ranking of 40 in singles and 4 in doubles.
Jonathan is particularly enjoying his work with the Worthing College Sports Academy. “I like working with youngsters of this age, the challenges and feedback make each session very enjoyable. At an age when many give up, it is gratifying to give the students a direction in sport either as players, coaches or referees”.

Tom Pocock joined the coaching staff at West Worthing on a full time basis in June 2007 following the completion of his degree at university and a successful junior playing career. He has represented Great Britain at every age group and travelled extensively across the world competing in both junior and senior events throughout his teenage years. Notable highlights of Tom’s playing career include winning a Gold Medal at the U18 Commonwealth Games, becoming National Junior Doubles champion in 2002 and twice reaching the semi finals of the boy’s doubles at the Australian Open. Tom has competed at three of the four junior Grand Slam events and achieved a career best ITF Under 18 world ranking of 45 in singles and 4 in doubles in April 2002.
Tom has been coaching for 3 years and is an LTA Registered CCA Professional. As well as his work at West Worthing, Tom works periodically as a coach to the British Universities team notably being involved with the team that were runners up at the 2007 European Masters in Paris. He also assists with the captaincy of the Sussex Men’s team as well as running and competing in West Worthing’s Division 1 National Club League side.

John Beaumont has joined the tennis coaching team at West Worthing in February 2009. For many years John has played a high level of National Club League and Top Club Level Doubles. Whilst working his way up to the top team, he learned many aspects of playing club tennis. John has over 8 years of coaching experience and is an LTA Registered DCA Professional. He was previously Head Coach of Oadby Granville Tennis Club. He set up and ran many performance groups and teams, from Mini-tennis level up to top junior club teams. John has worked with many schools in the past and is keen on creating strong school-club links between the club and the local primary schools. John also has considerable experience coaching adult sessions, helping beginners become confident club team players and driving the experienced players to a higher standard. John's enthusiasm is infectious and he hopes to spread his love for tennis across the club as well as the community.

Mike Harris joined the club as Head Squash Pro in January 2010. Former England Coach and before that Head Pro at Coral Health & Fitness in Hove, has been coaching for over 20 years, developing thousands of players, young and old to take up one of the most exciting participation sports and the healthiest in the world!
Mike has been coach to 7 British Champion, with 13 titles between them, coach to 3 European Champions, numerous Regional and County Champions and he has managed and coached England at winning World & European Junior Team Championships over the last 10 years.

England Squash Coach Laura Wright has over 10 years coaching experience. Represented Sussex in all age groups and played for England.
Laura is captain for all the junior teams, ladies 1st team and mens 2nd team.
Laura currently runs all the group-coaching sessions for adults and juniors every week, and offers individual coaching if preferred. |
